Jason Alexander
Special Advisory Committee
American actor, director, producer, writer, singer, and comedian.

Jason Alexander is best known for his role as George Costanza on SEINFELD, appearing from 1990-99. Alexander starred in the TV productions of BYE BYE BIRDIE and CINDERELLA and voiced the titular character in the animated cult classic DUCKMAN. He produced and starred in the series BOB PATTERSON as well as the CBS sitcom LISTEN UP! and has notably guested on CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM; STAR TREK VOYAGER; CRIMINAL MINDS; FINDING HARRY; FRIENDS; TWO AND A HALF MEN; OLD CHRISTINE and much more.

He has also had an active career on the stage, appearing in several Broadway musicals including JEROME ROBBIN'S BROADWAY in 1989, for which he won the Tony Award as Best Leading Actor in a Musical. Also on Broadway, he appeared  in Stephen Sondheim's MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, Kander & Ebb's THE RINK, Neil Simon's BROADWAY BOUND and Rupert Holme's ACCOMPLICE. He starred in the Los Angeles production of The Producers with Martin Short and was the Artistic Director of "Reprise! Broadway's Best in Los Angeles," where he directed several musicals. 

His directing credits also include the feature films FOR BETTER OR WORSE and JUST LOOKING, as well as episodes of SEINFELD, EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, MIKE AND MOLLY, FRANKLIN AND BASH and CRIMINAL MINDS. He won an American Country Music Award for his direction of Brad Paisley's COOLER ONLINE video.

In film, he co-starred with Richard Gere in PRETTY WOMAN, as well as star turns in SHALLOW HAL;  LOVE! VALOR! COMPASSION!; DUNSTON CHECKS IN, ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE; JACOB'S LADDER and more. He voiced the gargoyle Hugo in Disney's 1996 animated film THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.

Richard Maltby
Special Advisory Committee

Richard Maltby, Jr. conceived and directed two Tony Award-winning Broadway musicals: FOSSE (1999: Tony, Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk Awards) and AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' (1978: Tony, New York Drama Critics Circle, Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk Awards), for which he also won the Tony Award as Best Director. With longtime collaborator, composer David Shire, he directed and wrote lyrics for STARTING HERE, STARTING NOW, 1977 (Grammy nomination); BABY, 1983, with librettist Sybille Pearson (nominated for seven Tony Awards); CLOSER THAN EVER, 1989 (Two Outer Critics Circle Awards: Best Off-Broadway Musical, Best Score); and the musical BIG, 1996, with librettist John Weidman (Tony Award nomination for Best Score). With the team of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, he wrote lyrics for the international hit MISS SAIGON (London Evening Standard Award, Best Musical, 1990; Tony Award nominaton for Best Score, 1991). Mr. Maltby directed and co-wrote with Don Black the American adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s SONG & DANCE, 1986, which won a Tony Award for its star, Bernadette Peters. He has enjoyed a long association with the Manhattan Theatre Club, where he directed five musicals including the original production of AIN'T MISBEHAVIN'.

David Shire
Special Advisory Committee

David Shire, an Academy Award and two-time Grammy winner and multiple Tony and Emmy nominee, has composed prolifically for the theatre, films, television and recordings. On Broadway, he and lyricist Richard Maltby wrote the scores for the musicals BABY (Tony nominations for Best Score and Musical) and BIG (Tony nomination for Best Score). His off-Broadway scores, also written with Maltby, include STARTING HERE, STARTING NOW (Grammy nomination), CLOSER THAN EVER (Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and Score), URBAN BLIGHT at the Manhattan Theater Club, and the off-Broadway musical THE SAP OF LIFE. He also wrote the incidental scores for AS YOU LIKE IT (NY Shakespeare Festival), Peter Ustinov’s THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER and HIS WIFE (Lincoln Center), Donald Margulis’ THE LOMAN FAMILY PICNIC (MTC), SCHMULNICK'S WALTZ and VISITING MR. GREEN. Shire’s many feature film scores include NORMA RAE (Academy Award for Best Song, lyrics by Norman Gimbel), Francis Coppola’s THE CONVERSATION, ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1-2-3, SHORT CIRCUIT, 2010, FAREWELL, MY LOVELY, THE HINDENBERG, RETURN TO OZ and SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, for which his work earned him two Grammy Awards. He most recently scored David Fincher’s ZODIAC and Peter Hyams’ BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. His numerous television scores have garnered five Emmy nominations and include Glenn Close’s SARAH PLAIN AND TALL, Christopher Reeve’s REAR WINDOW, RAID ON ENTEBBE, Oprah Winfrey’s THE WOMEN OF BREWSTER PLACE, THE KENNEDYS OF MASSACHUSETTS, Wendy Wasserstein’s THE HEIDI CHRONICLES, and Neil Simon’s JAKE'S WOMEN and BROADWAY BOUND. He also composed the theme song, with lyrics by Marilyn and Alan Bergman, for the long-running Linda Lavin NBC series ALICE. His songs, with lyrics by, among others, Richard Maltby, Norman Gimbel, Marilyn and Alan Bergman, Carol Connors, or himself, have been recorded by Barbra Streisand (who has recorded six of them, including STARTING HERE, STARTING NOW, which was the opening number of her recent world tour concert), Maureen McGovern, Melissa Manchester, Jennifer Warnes, Julie Andrews, John Pizzarelli, Liz Callaway, Lynne Wintersteller, Nancy Lamont, Vanessa Williams, Glenn Campbell, Johnny Mathis, Kiri Te Kanawa, Kathy Lee Gifford, Robert Goulet and Michael Crawford, among many others. “I’ll Never Say Goodbye”, with lyrics by Marilyn and Alan Bergman, was nominated for an Academy Award the same year as “It Goes Like It Goes” was nominated and won the Oscar. His “With You I’m Born Again” (lyrics by Carol Connors) was an international Motown hit for Billy Preston and Syreeta, and he and David Pomeranz co-wrote “In Our Hands,” the theme song for the United Nations World Summit for Children.

Shire is a Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of Yale, serves on the executive council of the Dramatists Guild of America and is a trustee of the Rockland Conservatory of Music. His eldest son, screenwriter Matthew Shire, lives in Los Angeles; and he, his wife and their teenage son Daniel make their home in the Hudson Valley.

Nana started her career in her hometown of New York City by starring in Broadway musicals such as MY ONE AND ONLY, 42nd STREET and CHICAGO and also had the pleasure of playing the role of Gypsy Rose Lee opposite Angela Lansbury in the touring companies of the musical GYPSY.  Nana has guest starred in over fifty TV shows.  For years she was a regular on the soap operas ONE LIFE TO LIVE, RYAN’S HOPE and THE DOCTORS.  Prime time series include WORKING GIRL with Sandra Bullock, DARK ANGEL with Jessica Alba, seven seasons on Star Trek:  DEEP SPACE 9 as Major Kira, four seasons of WILDFIRE on ABC Family and has provided many voices on FAMILY GUY.  Films include THE SENTINEL, MIMI’S FIRST TIME, BABY SITTER WANTED, SWING VOTE, FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH and the upcoming releases of HELL OF A VIEW and TED2.

Alex Brooks
Supporting Consultant  in Animal Care and Training

Alex has been training dogs since the late 1970′s with an extensive background in all types of training. He was a columnist for the Daily Herald and Journal & Topics writing and answering questions on canine behavior. He has worked with local police canine units and has even trained narcotics dogs. For animal control, he does evaluations and has appeared in court as an expert witness. He also works closely with local animal shelters and rescue organizations doing volunteer work in training dogs so they are easier to place in a forever home. He trains dogs to help the physically challenged gain improved freedom, independence, and quality of life.

His canine training expertise has gained the attention of many well known sport superstars including Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Tony Kukoc, Cliff Levingston, Maurice Douglas, Bobby Simmons, Antonio Davis and Jalen Rose, to name a few. Furthermore, Alex has been called to audition, and has supplied dogs for, MTV music videos, educational videos, and Home Alone 3. His expertise was sought out by The Paw Stop in New York City, were he spent many months working with them to improve their own training and behavioral program. Alex
is the National Director of Training for The Lutheran Church Charities Comfort and Military Kare9 dogs and owns AlexBrooks Canine Center that opened up in 1989 and still operates in Des Plaines IL.

While in New York he worked with the dogs of Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos and Food Network Personality Scott Conant. He also worked with some of the Bernadette Peter’s rescue dogs.

Alex speaks at many dog training and behavioral seminars teaching dog owners and dog trainers all about animal behavior modification. He has been a frequent guest on the Comcast cable show Contempo, addressing many dog owner issues. He incorporates his skills as a level ll Reiki healer and Shaman Practitioner into his behavioral techniques with the dogs. He was called by Nancy Glass Production Co. to work on episodes of National Geographic Wild show “My Dog Ate What”? along with being called upon by Holistic Select Dog Food Co. to give expert training and behavioral advice to their clients.

Jay has been working as lighting designer and technician for the last 20 years.  He has worked in theatre, dance, concert, television, film, commercial, music video, and architectural lighting.  Jay received a BFA from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film in Lighting Design.   While in school he did an internship with The Lighting Design Group, a TV lighting company.  Jay worked for 12 years with LDG and several other companies as an electrician, gaffer, lighting director, and lighting designer.  While freelancing for these companies he worked on many shows for NBC, WNBC, CNN, ABC, FOX, Fox News, CNBC, CBS, HBO, PBS, Food Network, Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, YES Network, Discovery, Warner Brothers, and Tyler Perry Productions. Credits include NBC’s coverage of the 2006, 2008, and 2014 Olympic games, 2012 Republican debate coverage for FOX News, The 2012 Republican National Convention for FOX News, HBO Real Sports, Pierce Morgan CNN, Larry King Live CNN, Anderson Cooper 360 CNN, For Colored Girls (a Tyler Perry film), I am Legend (opening scene), Education Nation, Presidential election coverage 2004, 2008, and 2012, and many more.  Jay has been nominated for two Emmy Awards for Technical Excellence for work on the 2006 and 2008 Olympic games.

Jay also works behind the camera as a still photographer and a director of photography.   He has been shooting since he was in high school and his experience in lighting has made his photography stronger and has been to pursuing it as a second career.  For the past 14 years Jay has shot fashion, portrait, concert, editorial, and fine art photography while living in New York City.  He got involved in video while working on commercials.  Starting off as a camera operator and later leading up to director of photography for several product commercials.  Eventually he hopes to work as a cinematographer for music videos and movies.  Photo and video credits include NYC Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (7 seasons), Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, Kaplan education video series, Midsummer Nights Swing, HBO Real Sports, Blood Junkies, American Ballet Theatre, and many more.
